Adventure between volcanos | Costa Rica

After you go through immigration and customs, our representative will meet you at the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) exit to load the luggage into the vehicle and transfer you to the hotel. The hotel for tonight is near San José, 15–25 minutes from the airport. During the short drive, you will receive a brief introduction to Costa Rica and some recommendations for your trip. Today is a free day in San José. If you want to add optional activities, we suggest a visit to Irazú Volcano National Park, located just a few kilometres away from Cartago, on a pleasant journey from your hotel in San José. The journey begins with a drive to the impressive summit of Irazú Volcano. Along the way, you will encounter various types of vegetation, including potato, onion, and cauliflower crops. Once in the National Park, take a short and easy walk to the main crater, where you can appreciate its beauty. Later, you will also visit the Orosi Valley, where you will find one of the few remaining colonial churches, and finally visit the Lankester Botanical Garden, a research centre that protects over 800 species of orchids, bromeliads, and countless other plant species.

After breakfast, you will travel from the city of San José to the majestic Arenal Volcano area. This journey allows you to leave the city behind and immerse yourself in the serenity and beauty of the landscape surrounding the imposing Arenal Volcano. Along the route, you can admire lush tropical vegetation and finally reach the impressive presence of the volcano. This trip offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the peace and tranquillity the region offers. Upon arrival, we recommend relaxing in the local hot springs. Enjoy some free time in the morning. In the afternoon, we recommend taking a hike in Arenal Volcano National Park with a naturalist guide. You will walk along lava flow trails and have the chance to observe a wide variety of birds, iguanas, coatis, and many other animals. Stay at Arenal Montechiari Hotel or similar.

After breakfast, you will embark on a journey to the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano area. The route takes you through beautiful landscapes, from the tropical surroundings of Arenal Volcano to the influence zone of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, where thermal manifestations, fumaroles, and hot springs characterise the area. Upon arrival, enjoy the area's attractions. Stay at Hacienda Guachipelín Hotel or similar.

After breakfast, we suggest a visit to the Las Pailas sector in Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park, followed by a visit to Oropéndola Waterfall. The Las Pailas sector offers the opportunity to walk through the forest along trails that pass near fumaroles and boiling mud pots. You can feel the energy of the earth beneath your feet while observing the area’s vegetation and rock formations. Afterwards, you can visit Oropéndola Waterfall. This impressive waterfall plunges from a significant height amid a lush tropical rainforest, offering a refreshing natural pool where you can swim and enjoy the surrounding beauty. After breakfast, a transfer will take you back to San José. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you wish. You can explore the city, dine at a local restaurant, or simply relax at your hotel. Overnight at Auténtico Hotel or similar.

If you want to add extra activities, we suggest a visit to Poás Volcano National Park, where you will witness the stunning beauty of one of Costa Rica’s most active volcanoes. Contemplate the impressive view of its crater and immerse yourself in its natural surroundings. Finally, visit La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a natural paradise featuring beautiful waterfalls, gardens, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. Our driver will pick you up at the hotel and take you to the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). In Costa Rica, you must be at the airport 3 hours before the departure time.
