Overview
The different ecosystems including lakes allowed the early settlers of Coba to form their city, which was the largest settlement in the northern part of the Yucatan between 300 – 900 AD. Today, it is a great place to visit and enjoy its great bird diversity. We begin with a walk around the lake of Coba where we search for water birds such as Spotted Rail, Least Grebe, Ruddy Crake, Limpkin, Snail Kite, Purple Gallinule and other beautiful birds around the lake such as Gray-crowned Yellowthroat, Blue-gray and Yellow-winged Tanagers, Orange, Hooded and other species of Orioles, Yellow-faced Grassquit, Morelet´s Seedeater and many more. Once the archaeological site opens its doors we will be one of the first people to get in to start birding in the primary jungle now covering this great ancient city in search of birds such as Ocellated Turkey, Lesson´s and Turquoise-browed Motmot, Black-headed, Gartered and Collared Trogons, Masked and Black-crowned Tityras, Yucatan, Green and Brown Jays, Yucatan Parrot… . On this tour it is possible to identify 40 to 80 species of birds (depending on the time of the year). Enjoy a delicious meal to replenish your energy before heading back to your hotel/house.

We have a zero waste programme: we do not use plastics in our tours - instead, we use refillable water bottles and bring homemade snacks in Tupperware boxes. We also have a recycling and composting programme. We select small, locally owned providers (Cenotes, Sian Kaan, food, restaurants, accommodation) to support local communities, and our team participates in beach/town clean-ups each year We financially support local organisations such as Movida Maya (empowering Mayan kids), Alma Animal (shelter for cats and dogs) and a local kids’ football team (Titanes).
