Overview

This journey explores the wild heart of Malaysian Borneo, combining rainforest adventure, Indigenous heritage and close-up encounters with some of the island’s most iconic wildlife. Beginning in Kuching, you will experience Sarawak’s lush coastal landscapes before heading into Bako National Park—one of the best places in Borneo to observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Here, proboscis monkeys, macaques, wild boar and a wide range of birdlife roam through mangroves, heath forests and dramatic coastal cliffs. Travelling upriver by traditional longboat, the journey continues deep into Sarawak’s interior to stay among the Iban community. Life along Batang Ai unfolds at a slower rhythm, with jungle trails, waterfalls, and village evenings spent sharing stories, customs and locally brewed rice wine. In Sabah, the focus will be on wildlife conservation, from the orangutan and sun bear centres at Sepilok to the river cruises in Kinabatangan, we’ll search for orangutans, proboscis monkeys, hornbills, crocodiles, and pygmy elephants. The trip will end in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, where you can enjoy spectacular sunsets at the waterfront before departing for your onward journeys.

The afternoon feeding time at Platform B commences at 4:30 pm when groups of proboscis monkeys from the nearby forest and mangroves head to the wooden platform for a free meal. Labuk Bay offers a unique opportunity to observe these normally shy creatures. A group of silver leaf monkeys are often seen at the shelter, as well as Hornbills. From there, proceed to the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), an educational centre located within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. The focus is to experience the rainforest from high elevations and to observe red giant flying squirrels, which emerge from their nests at dusk. The centre’s long canopy walkway is 147 metres in length, and up to 28 metres above the forest floor. The walkway and towers offer a unique way to see Sabah’s rainforest and are an excellent place for birdwatching. The squirrels at the RDC usually emerge between 6/7 pm.
