Overview
We begin with an overview of the tea ceremony, highlighting the importance of engaging all five senses. We introduce the concept of mindfulness and explain the overall flow of the Oboro tea ceremony.; You will enter a softly lit room and enjoy a welcome tea and sweet. Here, we describe the purification ritual in a tea gathering and emphasise the practice of sharpening one’s senses in preparation for the ceremony.; In a candlelit room, you will quietly observe the host’s ritual of preparing matcha. After the first bowl is served, we share details about the tea utensils, the hanging scroll, and the concept behind the gathering. As a final memento, each guest receives a Japanese candle commemorating the day’s unique experience.
