Colombia has the greatest avian biodiversity in the world with 20% (1889 species) of all bird species on Earth. This is an extraordinary place where birds are in large-scale walk-in cages, allowing you close contact with the birds.

What you will be doing
After hotel pick-up, we will drive to Barú Island where the Aviary is located.
This is a wildlife conservation organisation working to preserve endangered species, promoting knowledge about Colombian diversity, its sustainable use, and its responsible management through animal welfare-led practices. Once there, you will be able to appreciate the 138 bird species and the tremendous job that this Aviary has done to replicate the different ecosystems of the species. This has been crucial to preserving the species and, more importantly, to facilitate their reproduction. Besides the vast area and huge walk-in cages they have opened for visitors, they have a research and reproductive program for endangered species like the Harpy Eagle, Andean Condor and the Blue-billed curassow.
After the tour, we will drive you back to your hotel so you can enjoy the rest of your stay in Cartagena.
