Overview
The Private South Coast Tour offers a unique opportunity to explore Iceland’s must-see sights at your own pace, with the flexibility to customise the itinerary. You can tailor the experience by adding or skipping stops to better suit your interests, making for a more personalised and immersive adventure. However, we have a carefully planned itinerary to suggest (see the Itinerary section), designed to showcase the most breathtaking highlights of the South Coast. This route includes stunning waterfalls, dramatic black-sand beaches, and breathtaking glaciers.
What you will be doing
A powerful cascade plunges an impressive 60 meters. Here, we pause to admire yet another of nature’s incredible masterpieces before making our way towards Vík í Mýrdal, one of Iceland’s most renowned towns. This charming coastal village is unique in the country as it lacks a harbour. From its picturesque church, we can capture stunning panoramic photos—not only of the town itself but also of the vast coastline stretching beyond.
After reaching the southernmost point of our adventure, we begin our journey back, making a stop at the iconic Reynisfjara black sand beach. Here, we take time to explore the dramatic landscape, soaking in the raw beauty of this extraordinary setting. The mighty North Atlantic Ocean, relentlessly crashing against the black shores, creates a truly mesmerising and unforgettable spectacle.
We then follow the Viking Trail along the coastal road towards Sólheimajökull Glacier, a striking glacial tongue extending from the vast Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. This ever-changing landscape, shaped by ice and volcanic ash, features deep crevasses, striking blue ice formations, and rugged ridges sculpted by Iceland’s unpredictable climate. As one of the most accessible glaciers in the country, it offers a rare opportunity to witness firsthand the effects of glacial movement and climate change.
Next, we continue our adventure in search of another of Iceland’s spectacular waterfalls. This time, we arrive at the beloved Seljalandsfoss, where—weather permitting—we take the unique opportunity to walk behind its cascading curtain of water. Nearby, tucked away within the mountainside, we also visit Gljúfrabúi, a hidden gem often missed by visitors.
Finally, we return to Reykjavík, where you’ll have the chance to reflect on the incredible sights of the day while browsing through the countless photos capturing the stunning landscapes of this unforgettable journey.
