What you will be doing

Teñideros

The river's unique colour is given by a physical phenomenon that reflects the sunlight through the water and occurs during the joining of two streams that give birth to the river, this place is known as the “Teñideros”. Rio Celeste Rainforest Hike is one of the most beautiful and scenic hikes in Costa Rica, located in the lush rainforests of Tenorio Volcano National Park, undiscovered by mass tourism. The park is home to diverse flora and fauna, including the tapir, wild cats, monkeys, toucans, and a vast variety of amphibians and reptiles.

Hike

Once at the park entrance we start the hike through this primary humid and rainy forest, several fauna species and exuberant flora are easily found in this ecosystem. During this 3-hour walk, we will visit a magnificent waterfall, the place where the river simmers with the light blue coloration, hot water springs (swimming not allowed), fumaroles of volcanic gases, where temperatures up to 1500 °F are expelled from time to time, and the “Borbollones”, where exhaust gases at the base of the river give the appearance of boiling water.

About your host

Jacamar Naturalist Tours

We started operations in 1996, in La Fortuna and San Carlos, and was a pioneer in the tourist development of the area, offering some of the first walks to the Arenal Volcano in an organised way. The experience gained through these years allows Jacamar Naturalist Tours to integrate and train some of the best naturalist guides in the country and explore the best tourist destinations with them. As we mature and expand, we maintained the same philosophy of sustainable tourism in each destination, always making a concerted effort to promote the conservation of nature and culture.

For every trip booked, Kodama Travel donates £1 to Just One Tree to restore our forests and the ocean.
