Overview
Begin your journey by crafting your own Goshuincho, a traditional Japanese temple stamp book. Start with an hour-long session where you’ll learn about the history and techniques of Karamaru, a unique method of transferring patterns onto Japanese paper using woodblocks. Choose from a selection of timeless woodblock designs, then use authentic woodblocks to print your favorite motif onto Washi paper, selecting from a vibrant palette of 20 colors. Each season offers unique patterns from skilled artisans. Finally, create elegant covers, transforming your stamp book into a cherished record of your visits to temples and shrines. At a nearby temple, you'll receive a red seal book and learn the significance of each calligraphy and seal. Then, visit a hidden 16th-century garden, where you can admire the fusuma paintings of national treasures from that era. Here, you’ll also receive a red seal book, deepening your connection to this beautiful tradition.
